What is SMP

Tiny impressions of pigment, layered like real follicles

Scalp micropigmentation (SMP) in Boston replicates the look of natural hair follicles using thousands of tiny, precise impressions of pigment in the upper layers of the scalp. Matched to your skin tone and hair colour, they blend seamlessly with any existing hair or a clean, close-shaved look.

It is non-surgical, needs no daily upkeep, and works for men and women. Whether you want to disguise thinning, rebuild a receding hairline, add density to a hair transplant, cover scarring or embrace a sharp shaved style, SMP gives back the appearance of a fuller head of hair, and the confidence that comes with it.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Does it hurt?

Most clients describe it as mild discomfort, similar to a light scratching sensation. Sessions are worked in manageable stages, and we will talk through comfort options at your consultation.

Is SMP permanent?

SMP is long-lasting rather than truly permanent. The pigment sits in the upper layers of the skin and softens gradually over several years, so an occasional top-up keeps it looking sharp.

How many sessions will I need?

Typically two to three sessions spaced a week or two apart. We build density gradually so the result looks natural and settles well.

Will it look natural?

Yes. Each impression is layered to mimic real hair follicles and matched to your skin tone and hair, so it blends with existing hair or a clean shaved look.

How long does a session take?

Usually two to four hours, depending on the size of the area being treated.

Is there any downtime?

Very little. You can return to most daily activities straight away, following a few simple aftercare steps, such as keeping the scalp dry and avoiding heavy sweating, for the first few days.

Can women have SMP?

Absolutely. SMP is a popular way to reduce the contrast of thinning hair and widening partings, and it suits both men and women.

Can it cover scars or a hair transplant?

Yes. SMP is regularly used to camouflage scarring, including FUT and FUE transplant scars, and to add density around a transplant.

Ready to feel like yourself again?

Every head is different, so your treatment plan and price are confirmed at your free, no-obligation consultation.
