Sunlight is the main thing that fades SMP pigment over time, so a little care goes a long way. We talk you through all of this at your appointment, but the basics are simple:
- Keep your scalp dry and avoid heavy sweating for the first few days after each session
- Hold off on swimming, including the sea, until your scalp has healed, and we will give you a timeline
- Once healed, wear a hat or a high-SPF sun cream on your scalp when you are out in strong sun
- Avoid sunbeds, which fade pigment faster
Look after it, and your result will stay sharp for years, with only an occasional top-up.

Will the sun fade my SMP?
Over time, strong sun can soften the pigment. Protecting your scalp once it has healed helps your result last longer.
When can I go swimming after SMP?
Not until your scalp has healed. We will tell you when it is safe at the end of your session.
